Tracking Spiders vs Tracking Spammers

I’m not sure if I have mentioned this before, (I’m sure I have somewhere) but the project that is taking up most of my time there days is http://SpamFreeEmail.com. I’ve been implementing a anti-spam email server using open source tools and writing the email server myself.

I was working on tracking which country the spam messages are coming from today and the similarities between tracking search engine spiders and spammers struck me and made me think about it for a while.

Both have distinctive signatures that exclaim when they are something other then an ordinary user and the tools to track them are not too different.

I’m hoping to upgrade the back-end servers that run the IP address database with the newer technologies that I’m using on SFE, but that won’t be till summer time at least.
