Controlling the Google Media Bot
The GoogleBot Media bot is the separate spider that is used to evaluate Google AdSense content. Just recently Google added a way for you to tell the Media Bot what areas of your page are more relevant then others.
Section targeting allows you to designate certain areas that should be weighted higher or lower for the relevance of advertising. They are using some pretty simple HTML comments to start and end the sections, so most people who can use AdSense should be able to implement this without too much trouble.
On my sites, since the content is all dynamic, it is very easy to place these tags into the header and footer templates making my content are the section that I want the media bot to target with higher relevancy. In fact I’ve already done this part….
I’m not sure how much better the relevancy will get for my sites, as I have been pretty happy with the targeting (for the most part anyway). The real news here is that Google is giving webmasters tools to guide googlebot around and point out what it should be looking at.
I consider this as important as the site map tools that they release not too long ago as well.
